SUMMARY:Sancta by Hindemith
DESCRIPTION:The Austrian performance artist Florentina Holzinger continues to pulverize stage genres and viewing habits with another performance based on Paul Hindemith’s one-act opera Sancta Susanna\, which premiered in 1922. She and an ensemble of opera singers\, sex workers and body modification artists examine the transformation of female identity and bodies in religious systems and rites. The drama about a nun’s lust and sexuality is linked to new compositions by Johanna Doderer\, Born in Flamez\, Stefan Schneider and Nadine Neven Raihani as well as spiritual works by Johann Sebastian Bach and Sergei Rachmaninoff\, among others. A musical and performative reflection on the body and sexuality\, which becomes a celebration of a mass together with the audience.
