Sancta by Hindemith
1 June @ 19:30
Florentina Holzinger opens SANCTA with Paul Hindemith’s one-act opera Sancta Susanna , in which a nun experiences brutal punishment for her sexual self-determination. SANCTA presents a pleasurable alternative to the religious discipline and punishment of sexuality in order to achieve religious ecstasy. Spider-like and dark, loud and excessive, funny and cathartic, SANCTA challenges religious conventions in an attempt to renew them at the same time.
